Having evolved considerably since its informal establishment in 1999, today the TIC CUP is an established golf event dedicated to raising funds that ultimately support sick kids and their families. With the help of our sponsors, volunteers and committee members since 1999, the TIC CUP continues to impact communities in both Arizona and Colorado in meaningful ways. TIC-Southwest employees hosted casual golf tournaments when three employees (Steve Bass, Tim Duke, & Dave Kivet) designed and built the custom made TIC CUP trophy. Teams competed to win the custom designed and built TIC CUP we know and love today. This one-of-a-kind trophy remains iconic in our tournament; and is taken home by each years’ winning team to display in their office for the year. It was in these initial golf tournaments that the foundational aspects of the tournament were established.
In 2001 the tournament began expanding, including other TIC regions and new participants. In 2006, our dear friend, and now TIC President, Michael Brueggemann’s daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Hearing the news, the 2007 TIC CUP Committee decided to sell raffle tickets in support of an Arizona based organization, Tee Up for Tots (TUFT) that supported our friend and his family during this difficult time. That year the tournament raised $2,000, donating it to TUFT to make a difference in another child’s fight for their life. In the following year the tournament really stepped things up, raising $10,000 to donate to TUFT, now known as Courtney’s Courage. By 2009 the TIC CUP’s vision had come into full view. And we formally announced our goal to raise tournament funds to assist sick kids and their families. 2009 marks the first official TIC CUP Charity Golf Tournament raising $25,800. With attendees and donation numbers rising each year, the impact of the TIC CUP Charity Golf Tournament continues to reach further every year. In 2016, TIC CUP Charities, Inc. became a 501c3, non-for-profit charity. After 10 years of official TIC CUP Charity Golf Tournaments in Arizona, California and Nevada, the TIC CUP has donated over $1,000,000 to over 20 different charities and families in need while making lasting memories for our over 940 players on the green.
